WEBNET MEETING (Corrected minutes)

Sarah Jones call the meeting to order at 10:40. The purpose of the meeting
is to get departmental web folks together to discuss how we can best help
each other accomplish our web projects. We noted a difference between
concepts of design and tools for designing.

I. Problems, help requests
We began by soliciting information from folks about areas where they felt
they needed help, or were having problems, concerning web development.

1. What kind of graphics to use? How about technical issues around
graphics, e.g. loading time, etc.?
2. How to create graphics?
3. Where to find help with design/graphic tools?
4. How to set up a bulletin board (intranet?)
5. How to set up a searchable database?
6. How to set up an interactive database (forms)?
7. Where to find java/other scripting help for Mac?
8. What platform to use for web server?
9. where to find help with basic design concepts?
10. Where to find critics/critiques to assess usability and accessibility
of your web pages?
11. Where to find graphic designers?
12. What programs to use for page design?
13. How to coordinate needs and resources?
14. Where to find, how to use project management tools for web development?
Where to find guidelines for web development?
15. How to put print resources online? Page scanning equipment, microfilm
converters, etc.
16. How to manage your site? Site navigation issues.
17. Mechanism for testing pages for cross-platform usability?
18. How to design for user "ineptitude."


II. Resources
We went around the table introducing ourselves, and sharing resources and

     Background in graphic design, willing to assist with
     graphic critiques. I use "Canvas" for graphics, can help with
     questions on that.
